Job Description:
Assistant Controller Basic Function: Supervises day-to-day activities of the Accounting Department; Leads and performs month-end closing and procedures for all companies; Prepares financial reports; Works directly with the Corporate Controller.
Typical Requirements:
1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
2. Five to seven years' experience including demonstrated experience and expertise in:
a. General ledger accounting
b. Working with manufacturing and ERP accounting systems
c. Managing or overseeing an accounting department or function.
d. Budgeting and/or forecasting.
3. Excellent computer skills-proficiency with Microsoft products (Excel/Word/PowerPoint) and working knowledge of Visual ERP system is a plus.
4. Exceptional problem solving abilities, organizational skills, and attention to detail
5. Highly motivated and able to thrive in a fast-paced setting.
6. Flexibility and experience in change management.
7. Strong interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skills required.
Direct Reports:
1. Accounting Clerks, including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Payroll functions
Essential Functions:
1. Supervises the activities of the Accounting Department including
a. Oversees accurate and timely day-to-day internal operational accounting of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll and Cash Management.
b. Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine transactions.
c. Establish and maintain systems and controls that safeguard assets and verify the integrity of all financial systems, processes and data.
d. Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
2. Leads and performs month-end closing and procedures for all companies including
a. Balance sheet reconciliations.
b. All adjusting, closing and consolidating journal entries.
c. Variance and trend analysis of income and expense accounts.
3. Prepares financial reports including
a. Company, consolidating and consolidated balance sheets, income statements and cash flow.
b. Internal and external monthly financial statements for the business units.
c. Accurate and meaningful reporting and analysis for key internal customers (e.g. operations).
d. Responses to inquiries from the Corporate Controller, and other managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests, etc.
e. Covenant and collateral reports for lenders
4. Working with the Corporate Controller
a. Assure corporate books are in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.
b. Lead year-end financial review efforts to ensure a clean and timely year end audit/review.
c. Assure corporate income tax compliance, accurate and timely completion of all corporate income tax returns and the payment of all forms of taxes, including owner tax distributions.
d. Supports budgeting and forecasting needs.
e. Supports customer cost justification reports and audit needs.
f. Assist Corporate Controller with other projects as directed.
Bottom Line Requirements:
1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
